Editor’s Note: While the logic of it being Trump and not Broidy holds up, new evidence has come to light that I’m not able to disclose that makes at least more likely that it was Broidy after all. But as I keep saying, the SDNY may have the proof one way or another.
So, the theory a friend of mine has come up with is this: that given some clues from Shera Bechard’s tweet history, that it’s possible that not only wasn’t it Elliot Broidy that got her pregnant but rather Donald Trump who also pressured her into having an abortion against her will. He proposes this because of her interestingly specific interest in the #MeToo movement. here is the evidence we have so far:
We also have this one side of a conversation Bechard had with a friend about men.
MeToo is more about people like Trump abusing power than some rando Republican money bags like Broidy. As New York Magazine suggested recently, it’s rather odd that someone who otherwise, is like, not only wealthy but reasonably legally savvy would turn to such a numbskull like Michael Cohen — Trump’s personal fixer — to make this problem go away. It definitely seems like Broidy is the fall guy for Trump and it doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch to think that Trump might put the screws on someone like Bechard to have an abortion if he feared it would get him into too much trouble. I mean, fuck, Trump apparently raw-dogged Stormy Daniels, so if he got Bechard pregnant it would at least be consistent behavior.
All of this is tenuous speculation. But it is interesting.
The point is — we will never know unless the SDNY finds evidence of this being the truth in all the documents they seized from Michael Cohen’s office. This raises an even bigger question: what if this is actually true? Would it matter?
If there is actual proof that Donald Trump not only paid for a lover to have an abortion but pressured her into do it, that would be such a massive blow to his administration that I would like to think that even hypocritical evangelicals would be given pause for thought.
It is difficult to imagine how even the most deplorable of deplorable Trump supporter could not be phased by such atrocious behavior. And, yet, who knows. It’s a struggle to get Trump people to admit some of his basic sins against common decency. Trump has no shame, so he would never resign and the Republicans in Congress would never impeach him for any reason, so I suspect not even this would bring Trump down. Trump has a unique place in American political history, something that I can honestly say makes me more than a little bit nervous for the fate of the Republic. So, for the time being, we have a king not a president. But, let me stress, this is all speculation. But it just makes too much sense. It makes a whole lot of sense.
