I have to be careful what I write on this one because people who absolutely believe it was Trump who got Shera Bechard pregnant will rage if I don’t at least give some credence to the #FOTUS theory, while those who actually know what happened will shame me for giving the theory any remaining credence at all.
The latest weird thing to happen to give the #FOTUS (Campos) Theory people something to cling to is the Shera Bechard’s complaint demanding she get paid by Elliot Broidy was immediately sealed for 20 days. Given all the embarrassing things that could possibly be included in the complaint, it makes sense that this would happen.
At the crux of the #FOTUS theory is how if you don’t know the truth — that it was Elliot Broidy who got Shera Bechard pregnant — the logic of it being Trump who did is so addictive, so nearly absolute in its obviousness that it’s damn near impossible to shake off. I say this as someone who feels he knows what really happened.
What really, absolutely happened, the thing that caused all this confusion and speculation in the first place is Shera Bechard picked Keith Davidson to represent her. Once that happened, the rest took care of itself. Davidson looked up Broidy, saw that he knew the president’s fixer Michael Cohen through the RNC and ta-da: a conspiracy theory is born.
In hindsight, it seems as though the people involved were not thinking very clearly. I mean, I know apparently Broidy’s wife is his lawyer, but we know for a fact that he does, in fact, have an actual lawyer he could have used instead of doofus Michael Cohen. And Broidy was actively trying to weasel his way into the good graces of the Trump Administration so he could sell access to Arabs for something like $600 million. But it’s not that they weren’t thinking clearly, they just didn’t think any of this would come to light. They had no idea that Cohen’s offices would be raided.
So if you simply say that Bechard was lying about randomly being referred Davidson, then the whole thing falls apart and it becomes pretty clear that it was, in fact Trump. Too bad that even I now think she’s telling the truth. It’s surreal that it happened, yes, but unless something truly astonishing happens, unless something that makes my mouth literally drop in shock occurs pretty quick, then the conventional wisdom is correct — Elliot Broidy got Shera Bechard pregnant and because she was referred Keith Davidson, for a few days we all thought Trump was the father.
It’s a testament to the low opinion we have of Trump that it’s so addictive for us to think he was somehow involved in all of this. But he wasn’t. We have to stop kicking the can down the road in some sort of vain attempt to keep our conspiratorial hopes alive. There’s no there there. None. Zip. Zilch.
It really hurts me as a liberal to admit that, to admit that Trump is in the clear on this one, but it’s the truth. For once Trump just happened to be connected to some shady — not thinking clearly — characters while he, himself, didn’t actually do anything wrong.
The sooner all of us come to grips with that, the better.
