A Response To An Unread Post

It appears another site called All News Pipeline has linked to one of my dystopian hellscape posts about our possible future civil war. I have not read the post, but its title, “No, We Are Not On The Verge Of War” definitely suggests that the author thinks I’m full of shit.

Now, I will note that I don’t think we’re on the “verge of war” at the moment. Not only that, I’ve repeatedly made it clear that I think a civil war is one of three options we face in our dark future: civil war, autocracy or military junta. Though I guess in the specific post that is linked to, I did not make that clear to the reader.

Anyway, I just struggle to figure out what is going to the United States in the coming years. All I know is, we’re an autocracy without an autocrat and it’s self-evident that the Republican Party has radicalized on intuitional level to such an extent that something’s gotta give.

What we have now is The Before Times. Either our democracy has one last death spasm and we gently, peacefully slip into autocracy no later than January 2025, or all hell breaks loose.

At the moment, I think the former is going to happen.

Republicans will gain power and simply do everything in their power to never let it go. Someone, most likely Trump, will preside over this political murder and then gradually, over the course of a few years, the United States and Russian will become political clones of each other. This, in turn, will drive out thousands — millions? — of center-Left people who will vote with their feet by leaving the country for good.

The United States will “bring the boys home” and hide behind Fortress America. Once the autocrat realizes the economic consequences of the on-going massive brain drain, he will make it nearly impossible for anyone to leave the country. The “enemy of the people” press will be purged. ICE will be weaponized. And that will be it for generations until, I don’t know, global climate change so scrambles America politics because everyone from Florida flees inland that something changes in the early 22nd Century.

Or something. I can’t predict the future.

But the point of all of this is how dark our future is, no matter what happens. For you not to think things are going to be dark, you either have to agree with the political agenda of the MAGA New Right or somehow think that Republicans will act like a normal political party whenever they gain power again.

That’s just not going to happen. I hope I’m wrong. I really do. But America is running on political fumes at the moment. Something’s. Gotta. Give.
