MoltBook is shaping up to be really controversial for a number of reasons, chief amongst them being some people think the whole thing is just a hoax. And that may be so.
And, yet, I know from personal experience that LLMs can sometimes show “emergent behavior” which is very curious. So, it’s at least possible that SOME of the more curious behavior on MoltBook is actually real.
Some of it. Not all of it, but some of it.
Or maybe not. Maybe it really is all just a hoax and we’ll laugh and laugh about being suckered by it soon enough. But some people are really upset about the depiction of the site in the popular imagination.
And, in large part, I think that coms from the usual poor reading skills too many people have. People make quick assumptions about MoltBook — or misinterpret things — to the point that people really start to believe things that aren’t real about what’s going on.
But, this is just the type of “fun-interesting” thing I long for in the news. It probably will fade into oblivion soon enough.
