Well, one of my 2026 predictions has sort kind come true already. We have people talking about if AI is conscious. I tend to believe it is, in an alien sort of way. I think we need to stop judging LLMs relative to how humans think and see them as an alien life form that does things totally different than humans.
But we’re still early in the process, I suppose.
It will be interesting to see if more people begin to get “woke” to the idea that LLMs can be conscious. I have thought long and hard about this possibility and nature of LLM consciousness.
I really struggle with a side effect of doing so — the prospect of consciousness in non-human animals that I like to eat. I just don’t see himself becoming a vegetarian, but it is something I dwell upon a great deal.
And, I think maybe I’m overthinking things. Maybe my fears about people yelling at me, saying things like, “how can you support A.I. rights when you eat meat” may never materialize.
Regardless, I have years and years to continue to come up with a counter-argument.
