The fact that Sinners, which is apparently one of the best movies of the year so far, is so controversial is an example of why we can’t have nice things. The chief complaint, apparently, is it’s a movie that makes black people happy?
Now, let me be clear, I haven’t seen the movie — and probably won’t because it’s a horror movie — but I haven’t seen this level of positive buzz since the Barbie movie came out.
It’s an example of the sick sad world we live in that it seems as though there’s a lot of bother about the movie because it’s a “black film.” In fact, things got kinda hot between Mat Bellamy and the creator of The Black List about the fact that the movie is being seen in the press through a lens of pure, unadulterated racism.
At least, that’s how the guy from The Black List painted it.
Anyway, go see Sinners. It’s all over Tik-Tok and it seems like it might be in the running for a few Oscars.
