‘Guatemala’ — #Lyrics To An EDM Pop Song

These lyrics are meant to be kind of deep. I’m well aware that EDM songs often start with a beat first and then get the lyrics, but I don’t have that luxury. I don’t have any beats, but it seems as though given the significance of the ProPublica audio of the little girl who says, when asked, “Guatemala” in such a heartbreaking manner when she’s torn from her family that it merits song lyrics if nothing else. I only pick EDM Pop as the type of beat to go with the lyrics because EDM Pop often uses longer words like “Titanium” or “Chandelier” or “Diamonds” that are drawn out for effect. So, ideally, these lyrics would have a beat similar to an up tempo song that Sia might sing. These lyrics are actually pretty good. Need a composer and a co-writer (and some beats!) but they definitely make the point.

torn from your family at the border
big scary people speak a language
you barely understand
your screams are heard around the world
this is America this shouldn’t be happening

[Pre-Chorus]
things are looking rough I will admit
we’re in for a dark, dark time
but when you are given your chance
we’ll hear loud and clear

[Chorus]
where are you from little girl
Guatemla
where are you from little girl
Guatemla

you’ve make a trek with your mom
2,000 miles away from home it’s true
but you simply want a safe place to lay your head
what’s in the mind of the people hurting you

[Pre-Chorus]
things are looking rough I will admit
we’re in for a dark, dark time
but when you are given your chance
we’ll hear loud and clear

[Chorus]
where are you from little girl
Guatemla
where are you from little girl
Guatemla

[bridge]
one day we’ll get you safe
little don’t be afraid
Uncle Sam should be ashamed
but it’ll work out in the end
I swear

[Chorus]
where are you from little girl
Guatemla
where are you from little girl
Guatemla
Guatemla
Guatemla
Guatemla

‘What’s Happening?’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Rap Song

This would feature the audio from the scene in Poltergeist where the young woman jumps out of her car and screams, “What’s happening?????” as its hook. I see this as a Kanye West type pop-rock-rap song.

What’s happening?
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
Sample from the movie “Poltergeist” 1982

{sample / hook}
What’s happening????
What’s happening????
What’s happening????

the end seems to be near
every day things are the same
I wake up to chaos in the tweets
people wanting to take to the streets
all I wanna do is get you beneath the sheets
but it’s not be be until we get some peace
call the police to complain
but they tell me if I wanna get laid
I’m going to have to act sane

want you by my side
let me slide across your border
these are dark days indeed
these are dark days indeed
when our POS POTUS prevents a man
from getting laid
{sample / hook}
What’s happening????

just give me what I want
you naked as can bee
letting me see the truth
but you tell me it just ain’t gonna happen
I gotta to prove my love by fighting the power
take the streets you say
“lace up your Adidas until the babies are free
if you want to put a baby in me” is your refrain
we am I gonna do
when are you gonna let me off the hook
let me get to work on that body of yours
I can be expected to wait
until the dictator is defeated

want you by my side
let me slide across your border
these are dark days indeed
these are dark days indeed
when our POS POTUS prevents a man
from getting laid
{sample / hook}
What’s happening????

[bridge]
what’s happening indeed
just want this to end
one day it will I’m sure
but we’ve got a fight ahead of us
the passion of the streets
ain’t anywhere near being complete

{sample / hook}
What’s happening????
What’s happening????
What’s happening????

‘We’re Better Than This’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Ballad

Just in the mood to write lyrics. These are self-evident as to what they’re about.

We’re Better Than This
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner

we’re better than this my friend
we have to be I beg and beg
when will it end I struggle to understand
we’re better than this my friend

children alone
torn from their parents
how can this be condoned
but there it is on my tv
to be shown to all
who has the gall

we’re better than this my friend
we have to be I beg and beg
when will it end I struggle to understand
we’re better than this my friend

how did this come to be
children torn from their parents
as they run from danger
just begging to be free
who have we become

we’re better than this my friend
we have to be I beg and beg
when will it end I struggle to understand
we’re better than this my friend

[bridge]
soon this will end
at last that’s my cry
we can’t keep this up
this is not alright
need some respite

we’re better than this my friend
we have to be I beg and beg
when will it end I struggle to understand
we’re better than this my friend

‘I Do Care (Don’t You?)’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Ballad

These lyrics are pretty self-evident. They’re about the children torn from their parents at the border by the government and make an allusion to Melania Trump’s “I don’t really care,  do you u?” coat.

I Do Care (Don’t You?)
Lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

I see their faces so far away
feel their cries in my soul
don’t know how this happened
ask the man above what’s the rub
this has to change

I do care
(don’t you?)
I do care
(don’t you?)
I do care
(don’t you?)

how did we get here I exclaim
while we’re fighting over who’s to blame
children wail in pain
we are so much better than this
wish we could end this right away

I do care
(don’t you?)
I do care
(don’t you?)
I do care
(don’t you?)

[bridge]
when this is over
we’ll still be sad
but we’ll be glad
it’s done
the children have been reunited
at last

I do care
(don’t you?)
I do care
(don’t you?)
I do care
(don’t you?)

‘Scorpion’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Ballad

This is a reference to the parable of the scorpion and the frog. I just like telling stories in verse. That’s it. I’m just relaxing. No one is paying me any attention and so I’m just challenging myself. I need to be working on my novel.

Scorpion
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

we’re in the middle of the river
once again
you look into my eyes with love
and you strike
as we sink into oblivion
you hug me tight and say your sorry

you’re the scorpion of my heart
the scorpion ready to strike
the scorpion, the scorpion
the scorpion, the scorpion

doesn’t seem possible
that this would happen again
the doors would slam and rings go rolling
but our love seems too solid
for the stinger to be felt

we’re too animals under the sheets
when we have to cross the river though
your instincts kick in yet again
I’ll hop anywhere you like
but I can’t bear to die again tonight

you’re the scorpion of my heart
the scorpion ready to strike
the scorpion, the scorpion
the scorpion, the scorpion

[bridge]
the truth will out
I know your lies
but I can’t deny how I feel
when you’re between my thighs

keep expecting a different outcome
say to myself one last time then I’m done
peeking into my fate I know the truth
you’ll strike again with love in your eyes
soon enough the darkness with abide

‘Back In The Day’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Song

As I understand it, Madonna was quite the wild animal in New York City from about 1985 to 1994. She was plowing her way through the male (and female) population of the city at an alarming rate, so much so that people at the time took notice of its rapacious nature. So, I’m a big Madonna fan and this would be a pop song telling someone that tonight might get kind of wild.

Back In The Day
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls

I see you on the couch
slouching in despair
at your heart broken
with out any chance of repair
stop being so sad about that lout
we’re going out

grab your coat and babe
the time is ripe
for you to party all night
stop pouting and get ready for a pounding
your new love is out there I know

we’re going to party like Madonna
party like Madonna back in the day
party like Madonna back in the day

we’re going to hoe our row
work our asses til they’re red
we’ll be turning heads left and right
girls and guys won’t know what to think

I’m not kidding you ’cause your no fool
we’re going to follow Madonna’s lead
crash a party or three
I’ll be Sandra you be Madonna
talking David Letterman

we’re going to party like Madonna
party like Madonna back in the day
party like Madonna back in the day

[bridge]
when we wake up tomorrow
we’ll find our new best friend or two
struggling to understand what happened
he or she will realize they’ve played their part
driving the dark out of our hearts

we’re going to party like Madonna
party like Madonna back in the day
party like Madonna back in the day

‘Good Time Girl’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Ballad

I like this one. In my fevered imagination it’s a slow pop ballad, but these are just words. What happens to them — which is probably nothing — is up to fate. I would need a co-writer and a producer to do anything with it.

Good Time Girl
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

don’t need any money when I’ve got yours
give you everything you want and more
show you a good time but I’m no whore
lots of guys want my body but they ain’t you
for the right amount I’ll be
your good time girl

don’t judge me for my life
just ’cause I my rich
doesn’t mean I’m a bitch

I’ll always be your good time girl
good time girl is what I am
good time girl
good time girl
good time girl

I know you think you’ve me figured out
but you just don’t know the truth
I always fly first class
with an ass like mine what else should I expect

guys are so easy to please
flip their switch and they’re ready to twitch
but when it’s time to pay up they get all confused
what really do you have to lose
I’ll take some more booze while you think

don’t judge me for my life
just ’cause I my rich
doesn’t mean I’m a bitch

I’ll always be your good time girl
good time girl is what I am
good time girl
good time girl
good time girl

[bridge]
I’ll make my way out of this
I tell myself every day
this is no way to live
getting laid for pay

when they finally come to take me away
at least I’ll have gotten my share
a few guys will have gotten laid
but there’s no shame in being
a good time girl

don’t judge me for my life
just ’cause I my rich
doesn’t mean I’m a bitch

I’ll always be your good time girl
good time girl is what I am
good time girl
good time girl
good time girl

‘Celebrity Crush’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Song

This is meant to be a dumb summer pop song. That’s all. These are just words. Someone would have to do something with them to make them a song.

Celebrity Crush
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

look at you on the my screen
I know in my heart you’re it
beaming into my soul is your role
you’d never deem me up to your speed
but what can I say you’re my

celebrity crush
rushing about soak up your sparkle
celebrity crush
lusting for a moment of your time
celebrity crush

if we ever met
then again maybe not
let’s not get started
with that dream
maybe it’s a little too much
for me to hope for

but it’s just a crush
no rush to the alter
seeing you on screen
does leave me breathing heavy
I’m no stan I swear
just a fan

celebrity crush
rushing about soak up your sparkle
celebrity crush
lusting for a moment of your time
celebrity crush

[bridge]
you’re my ideal
an idol of the best type
but you’re just a dream
when I wake up you’ll be gone

celebrity crush
rushing about soak up your sparkle
celebrity crush
lusting for a moment of your time
celebrity crush

Talk To Me Internet: Idle Rambling About Writing Lyrics

by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls

Just idle rambling about my quixotic writing of lyrics.

‘Orca’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Ballad

This is the type of song that because of the chorus might be misunderstood as fat shaming. But I think people would forgive the use of “orca” if the rest of the song is making it clear the narrator is cool with the size of the woman involved.

Orca
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

the lights finally on
the last song has been played
everyone’s drunk
we’re all looking to get laid

my friends point to you and sneer
there’s an orca looking for the kill
you should go over there act like a seal
she might make you lucky you never know

no shame in a little weight
call her an orca if you like
but she’s mine tonight
orca, orca, orca
orca, orca, orca

drunk as can be I walk over to chat
you look at me with big bright eyes
realize I’ve met my fate
in the light you’re as beautiful as can be
no need to deny that I’m ready for ride

we get to talking and what do you know
you’re as sweet as can be
just the lady for me
buy you one last drink
before you know it we heading home
the seas were rough before
but it’s smooth sailing now

no shame in a little weight
call her an orca if you like
but she’s mine tonight
orca, orca, orca
orca, orca, orca

[bridge]
weight doesn’t matter
when you’re in love
just more to see
more to hold when
things get tight

there’s no shame in a little weight
especially if that whales a mermaid
waiting for a date
