‘The State Of The Union’ #Lyrics To A #Pandemic #PopRock #Protest Song

Shelton Bumgarner

With this one, I cribbed the structure from Neil Young’s “Southern Man.” Anyway, this would be a really angry rock song like that song. Or something. It makes me feel better to vent in verse sometimes.

(hook)
we all bleed
the same colored blood
we all bleed
the same colored blood
we all bleed
the same colored blood

Verse
we are no longer red nor blue
we are only
patriots, citizens and humans

Chorus
get away from me with your hate
there’s no time for that
at this late date
we’ve all fallen short
that is the glory that is God
that is God
that is God

(hook)
we all bleed
the same colored blood
we all bleed
the same colored blood
we all bleed
the same colored blood

Chorus
get away from me with your hate
there’s not time for that
at this late date
we’ve all fallen short
that is the glory that is God
that is God
that is God

‘All Will Be Remembered’ #Lyrics To A #Pop #Ballad #BillieEilish #Pandemic

Shelton Bumgarner
Source: The Internet, duh.

I occasionally get in moods where I need to express myself in verse. I know nothing about music, but I am a reasonably good writer. So, using what little I know about the structure of pop lyrics, here’s a rough sketch of a pandemic-themed pop-song. It’s barely a rough draft. But it makes me feel better to write it. I see this as a Billie Eilish-type jam.

All Will Be Remembered
lyrics by Shelt Garner

we saw the world
in shades of blue and red
shout at each other in our minds

as the storm clouds began to rise
in the east but we gave it no mind
we blamed each other as it rushed our way
not caring we were all in its way

heroes would be made
cowards would be shamed
all would be remembered
all would be remembered
remembered, remembered, remembered
for what they did
in the vortex

a crack of thunder and it began
people began to flee from this world
head into the next
the headwinds of fate
crashed against our faces
we realized to secure in place
in the vortex

heroes are made
cowards are shamed
all are remembered
all are remembered
remembered, remembered, remembered
for what they did
in the vortex
in the vortex
in the vortex

(Bridge)
all was calm
for so long
we felt we had it all
but now we
see it was all gall
in the vortex

heroes were made
cowards were shamed
all were remembered
all were remembered
remembered, remembered, remembered
for what they did
in the vortex
in the vortex
in the vortex
in the vortex
in the vortex
in the vortex

What The Fuck, Greta Van Fleet?

Some thoughts.

‘These Colors’ — #Lyrics To A Protest #Pop Song #Resist

Shelton Bumgarner

In all honesty, me writing lyrics a product of frustration that no one has had the balls to produce any protest songs in the age of Trump. This is more simply me pointing out some potential avenues for other, better qualified people. I have no idea what I’m doing. This is meant to be inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain.

These Colors

we take such pride
in these colors that won’t run
thus it has always been
and thus it will always be

now what do I see
my eyes don’t lie they tell the truth
these colors are running, running, running
now what are we supposed to do
what are we supposed to say
these colors are running
these colors are running
these colors are running

we’ve lost our honor
it seems as though
our time has come and gone
our knees have buckled
pride is gone
what’s there to be proud of

now what do I see
my eyes don’t lie they tell the truth
these colors are running, running, running
now what are we supposed to do
what are we supposed to say
these colors are running
these colors are running
these colors are running

(bridge)

we’ll one day get it all back
the stain will linger long after though
we let it happen to ourselves
how did we let this happen
we let these colors

run run run run run
run run run run run
run run run run run

‘Martha Mitchell’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Protest Song

Shelton Bumgarner

If you know even a little bit about poor old Martha Mitchell, you know she knew a whole lot about Watergate long before we did. She paid a heavy price, too.

Martha Mitchell
Lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner

the truth is all around us
we all have eyes to see
these days it seems we’re all Martha Mitchell
they tell us we’re crazy when we see a fence
when they tell us it’s a wall, wall, wall

Martha Mitchell saw the truth
got a shot for her troubles
her mouth was shut for good
too bad Martha Mitchell didn’t get her chance
to save us all

Martha Mitchell
Martha Mitchell
Martha Mitchell
what did you see
Martha Mitchell what did you know
Martha Mitchell come back
we need you can’t you tell
Martha Mitchell come and set a spell

people tell me America’s great again
they say so with a straight face
all I know is it was already great
Miller’s got a date and I can’t even
get a swipe right
Martha Mitchell how did this happen, happen, happen

the people with connections in Washington
they tell me what to think
sleepy eyes wants to split the difference
but just like Martha Mitchell I know what’s right and wrong
need her spirit it guide me in these trouble days

Martha Mitchell
Martha Mitchell
Martha Mitchell
what did you see
Martha Mitchell what did you know
Martha Mitchell come back
we need you can’t you tell
Martha Mitchell come and set a spell

(bridge)
all I know is Martha got it right
she was telling the truth, yes she was
Nixon was a bad, bad, man
but they pinned her down so she was silenced
will we be any different?

Martha Mitchell
Martha Mitchell
Martha Mitchell
what did you see
Martha Mitchell what did you know
Martha Mitchell come back
we need you can’t you tell
Martha Mitchell come and set a spell

‘Sundowning’ — #lyrics to a pop-rock song

Shelton Bumgarner

This one needs to be cleaned up big time. But the idea is presented in an interesting way.

Sundowning
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls

look at the horizon what do I see
trouble is headed our way I fear
the land of the sane is ruled by a mad king
who rushes towards the sun don’t you know
is it possible can it be
he’s sundowning before me

sundowning
no it can’t be
sundowning
no it can’t be
sundowning
I refuse to believe

it were true
that such a thing could happen
how could it be that I’m the only one
the only person to cry out
we need to save ourselves from the heat
yet it seems we don’t believe the burn
that occurs when the sun crashes down

sundowning
no it can’t be
sundowning
no it can’t be
sundowning
I refuse to believe

(bridge)
up in the air
there’s the moon
it’s luna in all her glory
telling us to be calm
too bad it’s not she who rules us now
but a mad sun king

sundowning
no it can’t be
sundowning
no it can’t be
sundowning
I refuse to believe

‘Send Her Back’ — #Lyrics To A Country-Pop Song

Been struggling with how to use this phrase in a song. Finally figured it out. Not at all what I expected.

Send Her Back
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
Please give credit if you produce or perform

looking at myself in the mirror
thinking what’s been done
is done
what happens next is anyone’s guess
but let me put it out there

if you find her
send her back
send her back
if you find my love
send her back

she was my center
when she left it was with a roar
I adored her with my all my might
now the pain enters my heart at night
gives me a fright without any delight

all I can do is think of the past
without a doubt it’s a rout
it’s over there’s no doubt
but maybe with your help she’ll come back

if you find her
send her back
send her back
if you find my love

(bridge)
she’s coming back I just know
letting me leave the pain
it’s all I got
it’s my last refrain

if you find her
send her back
send her back
if you find my love

send her back

‘Dystopia in the US’ — #Lyrics To A #Punk Song

Dystopia in the US
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
Please give credit if you produce or perform

I live in a dystopia
I’m told lies everyday
by the people in charge

I don’t wanna be
in
the dystopia in the US
the dystopia in the US
the dystopia in the US

we’re better than this
or at least I thought
that’s what I was taught
this shame is going to leave a mark

no going back I’m afraid
they’re going to come for you and me
once they get done crushing the immigrants
gunna make us all live in a cage
it’s all the rage!

I don’t wanna be
in
the dystopia in the US
the dystopia in the US
the dystopia in the US

(bridge)
how did things change so fast
leaving all our hope in the past
now it’s stand and fight
or just be another dog in a cage

I don’t wanna be
in
the dystopia in the US
the dystopia in the US
the dystopia in the US

‘Stand Tall’ — #Lyrics To A Old School Hip Hop Song

The only reason why I even mention hip-hop is I was listening to Public Enemy as I wrote these lyrics. Trump is really beginning to piss me off.

Stand Tall
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
Please give credit if you produce or perform

fight on your feet
fight on your feet
fight on your feet
stand tall

you don’t have to preach
innocents are dying on the beach
we’re living in 1984
that’s the score

fight on your feet
fight on your feet
fight on your feet
not live as a slave

but let me state
I won’t be the man’s slave
that has time come and gone
so given the choice by the orange man
between living on my knees
or dying on me feet
I know what my choice will be

I can tell you for sure
I know where I stand
that choice is easy as pie
I know how I want to die
join me

fight on your feet
fight on your feet
fight on your feet
not live as a slave

(bridge)
black, brown or gay
they want to keep us on our knees
but the only please I believe is
that one day it will be seen
that we fight with all our might
on our feet
when given the opportunity

stand tall
stand tall
stand tall
fight on your feet
fight on your feet
fight on your feet
not live as a slave

‘Leaving Manhattan’ — #Lyrics To A #Pop #Rock Song

Leaving Manhattan
Lyrics By Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
Please give credit if you produce or perform

Everyday is like the last
Think it’s going to be a gas
When you leave Manhattan at last
But we all know, you’re never going to go
No matter how many times you say in a row
That it’s your fate, don’t you know

Leaving Manhattan
No one is to blame
Leaving manhattan
Maybe one day you’ll see the island by plane
But we all know you’re never
Leaving manhattan
Leaving Manhattan
Leaving Manhattan

Just another whiff
Of your cigarette
And the people around you will complain
Tell you to hop that train
But you know it’s just all very lame

In the end you’ll be in the Midwest
Remembering what you lost
All the coffeeshops where you were the boss
But no one will remember in the end
How you never left Manhattan
No matter the cost

Leaving Manhattan
No one is to blame
Leaving manhattan
Maybe one day you’ll see the island by plane
But we all know you’re never
Leaving manhattan
Leaving Manhattan
Leaving Manhattan

(bridge)
You’ll stay forever that’s for sure
They’ll name a street after you
Or maybe a chair at your favorite bar
You won’t go far
Especially not midtown
That would leave a scar

But you’re ready for flight
If even for upstate
Anything at this point
To lift the weight

Leaving Manhattan
No one is to blame
Leaving manhattan
Maybe one day you’ll see the island by plane
But we all know you’re never
Leaving manhattan
Leaving Manhattan
Leaving Manhattan
