People Love To Be Judgmental

I proved a point recently — that I can write a novel. And, what’s more, it’s not one that is embarrassing. It’s actually pretty good. But with that baseline established, there was a problem — it was too, first and foremost, too saucy. There was just too much sex in it.

To the point that one of my readers just threw up their hands and said, “It’s not for me.”

So, back to the drawing board. The general story is the same, but I’m leaning into to some darker elements of the my heroine’s character so readers can feel smug and content with their own lives. Or something. Something like that. Something that will allow both me, the writer, and the reading audience to get what they want.

I want a heroine who has an interesting life and audience want the chance to be haughty at what a screw up they perceive her to be. Or something. Something like that. That’s the general vibe I’m hoping for.

But one thing is clear — I need to buckle down. I have to stop screw around.
