I’m currently making my way through a “vomit” draft of my latest novel’s outline. It’s going pretty well, I suppose. Maybe not as well as I’d like — it’s taking too long — but generally I’m content.

The key thing I’m going to have to work on for the second draft is characterizations. Right now, I just have characters without any sort of distinguishing characteristics.
But once I wrap up the first draft, I think I’m going to spend some serious time thinking of ways to make my characters more colorful. I think the actual premise of the novel is pretty engaging — there is a basic tension in the novel that I think will pull people in.
Anyway. I just have to keep going. That’s the whole point of this endeavor. It’s kind of existential for me for various reasons.
