‘Test Your Luck’ — #Lyrics To A Dance-Pop Song

Just screwing around. I don’t have any beats and can’t afford any. But I think these lyrics are pretty good. I’m pleased.

Test Your Luck
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

you’re on a razor’s edge
rattling around in my head
visions of you in my bed
make me restless as can be
I’m battling my fate

test your luck
what do you have to lose

test your luck
might have me kissing your neck
if you get over your fears
test your luck
test your luck
test your luck

you don’t know what to do
can’t figure me out I can tell
you make my heart swell
all I can say is test your luck

we’re a car wreck waiting to happen
the passions unleashed will be great
tapping my feet waiting for us between the sheets
you think you can flirt
if you don’t try you’ll be kickin dirt
I think you should test your luck

test your luck
what do you have to lose

test your luck
might have me kissing your neck
if you get over your fears
test your luck
test your luck
test your luck

[bridge]
what’s the worst that can happen
I shoot you down
cause you to frown
but that’s not gunna happen
just test your luck and see
what the answer will be

I’m waiting for you to act
and that’s a fact
I’m not frontin
wanting you by my side
holding hands walking into the night
why don’t you

test your luck
test your luck
test your luck

‘The Vision Thing’ — #Lyrics To A Dance Pop Song

As I’ve said, I’m well aware that dance songs usually start with a beat first, but I don’t have any beats, so I working backwards. And, really, this is more just a rough sketch of a concept than a finished song. I would need a co-writer and a producer to make these lyrics anything resembling an actual song. The concept is a woman has her eye on a guy and she’s determined to meet him on the subway ride to work.

The Vision Thing
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls

woke up alone
gave the dog a bone
brushed my hair
ate my breakfast and made my way
to my appointed moment
your schedule is the back of my hand
today fate will be made
it’s the vision thing

you think I’m an extra in your movie
but today I’m going to be a star

it’s the vision thing
if a girl’s going to have ring
she has to have a vision thing
the vision thing
the vision thing
the vision thing

destiny is calling can you hear her
she’s every girl’s best friend
you don’t stand a chance I fear
today’s the day
my vision will come true
there’s not much you can do
don’t you worry don’t you fret
I won’t hurt you quite yet

grit my teeth knowing I’m right
I’ll be on your arm tonight
we’re set to be in love
’cause of random fate
I can’t help it needs a shove

you think I’m an extra in your movie
but today I’m going to be a star

it’s the vision thing
if a girl’s going to have ring
she has to have a vision thing
the vision thing
the vision thing
the vision thing

[bridge]
already picking out the drapes
to humble abode
we’ll start a little family
with a cute cat to hold

there you are on the subway car
holding your coffee and tapping your pin
you’re going to bump into me before
this ride is over just you bet
it’s all because of

the vision thing
the vision thing
the vision thing

‘Deep State’ — #Lyrics To A Dance Pop Song

Because people are dumb, the only way to explain how stupid Trump is would be to slip in a critique into a dance pop song about having sex. This would be something like “Side To Side” sung by Ariana Grande. It’s about a deep fuck. And how the president is insane.

Deep State
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

you think got what it takes
to bring me to my knees
but you got to show your way around
I’m not here to play

spies are all around
listening in on our chatting

I’m looking for a deep state
heat me up like a microwave
I want that deep state
I want that deep state

you may think I’m dumb
not in on the joke
you think can inch your way in
nice and close to me
but if you want that deep state
you have to work hard

a deep state is rare
I do declare
you hear about it all the time
girlfriends talkin about it to me everyday
but you got do more than talk shit

spies are all around
listening in on our chatting

I’m looking for a deep state
heat me up like a microwave
I want that deep state
I want that deep state

[bridge]
when we’re at peice
enjoying the afterglow
I’ll know the deep state is real
until then you need to heel

I’m wondering that is real
are you packing heat
do you measure up
I’m waiting to feel that deep state

spies are all around
listening in on our chatting

I’m looking for a deep state
heat me up like a microwave
I want that deep state
I want that deep state

‘Eyeroll’ — #Lyrics To A Dance-Pop Song

This song describes a very specific type of woman. She’s hot, in the club and wearing next to nothing. Fuck Bois keep coming up to her trying to holla at her and she isn’t having it. Now, there aren’t really that many women out there who fit that description, but most women have been in a similar situation. I would call it “Fuck Boi” but that’s a little too obvious and it’s unlikely it would get any Top 40 air play.

Eyeroll
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

the club is bumpin
my style is making the boys rumble
showing all I got
(which is a lot)
few can rock it like me
so they come after me
(eyeroll)

the boys summon the courage
to buy me a drink
they chat me up
soon enough I realize
they aren’t up to snuff
so I make them slink away
(eyeroll)

I’m your worst nightmare
and greatest fantasy

you think you can get with me
(eyeroll)
but think again
(eyeroll)
’cause you’re a bore
(eyeroll)

let me explain
to get me to what you want me
you’re going to have more than bling
I know what I want
doesn’t take me a moment to know
if you’re hero or a zero

you and your boys
have a bet
about which one of you
can get in my bed
but slow your roll
you gotta get into my head first
(eyeroll)

I’m your worst nightmare
and greatest fantasy

you think you can get with me
(eyeroll)
but think again
(eyeroll)
’cause you’re a bore
(eyeroll)

[bridge]
when I find my man
I’ll make him smirk
when me on his arm
look him in the eyes
knowing what he’s my guy

when the night is over
I’ll be content hanging with my friends
laughing at the silly boys
who thought they could
have a roll in the hay
when all they got was
(eyeroll)
(eyeroll)
(eyeroll)

‘Survive’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Song

This would be a song like Britney Spears’ stuff during her Blackout stage — dark, funky and sexy. These are the basic lyrics, you’d produce the hell out of them to make a banger.

Survive
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

had a bad day sad to say
look at yourself in the mirror
how to make it all go away
can’t explain to your dismay

but when things get bad
remember if Britney can survive 2007
you can survive
you can survive
you can survive this

don’t mean to diss
you might even hiss
but Britney shaved her head
showed us her clit
what you’re going through shit
just relax and breath a bit

there’s nothing to fear
you’ve got everything you hold dear
cling tight to the bright
don’t flip and fall into the dark
we don’t want that
and that’s a fact

but when things get bad
remember if Britney can survive 2007

you can survive
you can survive
you can survive this

[bridge]
she’s doing fine now
Britney’s still a star
keep your head up baby
you too will go far

the winds of change
blow every which way
what you make of them is up to you
you’ll survive in style
what else can you do?

‘It Girl’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Song

The problem with this is while the concept is great — updating Madonna’s “Material Girl” to “It Girl,” how do you stretch it out? This one is ok. It’s a first draft. Don’t have a beat, but I like the concept.

It Girl
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

London or New York
it’s a choice I can’t make
so I pick both
the East Village is great
when you want to take a hike

it girl
she rules the world
men want her attention
but they’ll fail
she’s too used to getting her way

it girl
she’s got it all
it girl
woke up to the world
it girl, it girl, it girl

we’re spinning round the sun
but it rains it still shines on she
’cause wherever she is that’s the place
the place to be
it girl

don’t ask me how I know
she’s ready to rule
see her face on a magazine
at the corner store
you can adore but never score

it girl
she rules the world
men want her attention
but they’ll fail
she’s too used to getting her way

it girl
she’s got it all
it girl
woke up to the world
it girl, it girl, it girl

[bridge]
she can pick from the best
’cause she’s blessed
you look at her
guess the rest

she’s got an app
and a slap on the back
when it’s all over
she’ll look back and smile
what a ride

it girl
it girl
it girl

‘How’s It Going To End’ — #Lyrics To A Pop-R&B Song

I love the idea of a song starting relationships for no other reason than it prompts a guy to take a chance of a woman he notices. That’s the kind of power only an artist has and I want it. Anyway, his would be to a Jhene Aiko type fusion beat. Maybe a little bit faster than her usual stuff, but I just write the lyrics. It’s up to someone else to determine the music to go along with it.

How’s It Going To End
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

eye you across the way
lower my sunglasses and cock an eye
wonder what you surmise
do you think of delight
between my thighs at night
are you serious or just joshing
with that grin
how’s it going to end

we’re just two ships
sailing towards our fate

how’s it going to end
are we about to sin
begin again
or just walk away with a grin
how’s it going to end
how’s it going to end

I’m no dope
I know you’ve got hope
of my slight touch
feeling the warmth of my breath
on your face in the dark
is this just a lark
or are you going to work for me

other girls might admire you
but I’d own you given the chance
I doubt you have it in you
to put in the effort for my attention
I guess we’ll see
how it’s going to end

we’re just two ships
sailing towards our fate

how’s it going to end
are we about to sin
begin again
or just walk away with a grin
how’s it going to end
how’s it going to end

[bridge]
when we finally meet
and you sweep me off my feet
will you remember the moment we locked eyes
realized our fate was in the stars

how’s it going end

I’m waiting for you to come over
waiting for you to make your move
what happens next is up to you

how’s it going to end
how’s it going to end
how’s it going to end

‘Bad Penny’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Song

There’s something there with this one. This one is actually about Keith Davidson always popping up, but it’s on a surface level about a woman like Carrie Bradshaw running into Mr. Big on the streets of New York City “randomly.”

Bad Penny
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or preform

you keep popping up
shifty as can be
what can it be
that you’re up to baby
are you after me
or am I just making things up

is it coincidence what I see
or something else

you’re a bad penny
appearing in my life
you’re a bad penny
you’re a bad penny
you’re a bad penny

are you looking for a score
looking for my digits
so you can call me up
looking for a moment of fate
yeah you’re cute
the way you fill out that suit

I’m not your type
right
you like’em tall and skinny
dumb as can be
nothing like me
but am I wrong
my bad penny

is it coincidence what I see
or something else

you’re a bad penny
appearing in my life
you’re a bad penny
you’re a bad penny
you’re a bad penny

[bridge]
it’s all good
maybe I’m wrong
you’re just doing your thing
not trying anything at all
yeah right

there you are again
with your swagger
looking for someone to tag
with the smuggest grin to be had
but we’ll see baby
if you’ve got what it takes
to make change
my bad penny

‘Hallway’ — #Lyrics To A Pop Song

Now, I know the story I want to tell, but I also want Top 40 airplay. This actually happened to me in South Korea. It was pretty wild. But this is just a first draft. You’d have to soften it some, make it more obscure. But I like this so far.

Hallway
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

you never know when fate with strike
it can come at you like a lightening strike

busy resturant
my world is fuzzy
get out of my seat
make my way to the back
give myself a moment’s rest in private
open the door and see my future
it’s a blur

in the hallway
we met in the hallway

two worlds collide
it was all so very wild
when we smashed together
like two stars
in the hallway
in the hallway
in the hallway

my head goes down
your heads goes up
our lips touch
the passion is extreme
these ships have collided

push me back
but the door’s locked
the moment’s broken
the passion has spoken
we look at each other

in the hallway
we met in the hallway

two worlds collide
it was all so very wild
when we smashed together
like two stars
in the hallway
in the hallway
in the hallway

[bridge]
had that door been open
who knows what we would have done
worlds would have been born
love would have been sworn

I get to my seat
look at my friends in surprise
feel your lips one last time
before you vanish into the night
what just happened
what just happened

in the hallway
in the hallway
in the hallway

‘The Eyes Have It’ — #Lyrics To A Dance Pop Song

This is just me screwing around with the general sexy dance pop concept written from a woman’s point of view. The power of music in a club to get people thinking about taking a chance with someone hot is limitless. It’s basic human nature if you have lyrics like this pounding in your head in a dark club and you’ve had a few drinks you might chat up a beautiful stranger. Remember, women are conditioned not to make the first move, no matter how obvious the connection.

The Eyes Have It
lyrics by Shelton Bumgarner
@bumgarls
please give credit if you produce or perform

the eyes have it
so much to see
can fake this scene

wear dark shades all you like
I see you looking at me
you’re interested in what I’m selling
your eyes are swelling
on my body you’re dwelling
booking my flight for heaven
’cause I’ve got your number

I’ve got my hooks in you
I can tell from your twitch
you’re waiting for my touch

the eyes have it
so much to see
can fake this scene

think you can walk on by
without you thinking about my thighs
it’s not going to happen big guy
we’re destined for delight
we’ll be in each others arms by midnight

other girls think they understand you
let you walk all over them
hoping to score your touch
but I like it rough
and I’ve got the right stuff

I’ve got my hooks in you
I can tell from your twitch
you’re waiting for my touch

the eyes have it
so much to see
can fake this scene

[bridge]
maybe you’ll escape
we won’t date
but I can’t believe
that’s our fate

our love will only grow
once you make your move
hot as can be
the connection we will have
when our skin makes contact
will be enough explode the universe
