Interestingly, The Criticism of ‘One Battle After Another’ Is Mostly Coming From The Left

Just imagine how much money One Battle After Another could have made if it had been thrown into the maw of the culture wars as a cultural touchstone for both sides. Just one tweet on Trump’s part could have really made a difference in the movie’s box office income.

But that, for the most part, did not happen.

Yet what did happen was the Left has gotten angry over the film, in large part because they think 1) the movie portrays black women poorly 2) they are irate that white critics give it the praise they believe Sinners should get.

In fact, there was a Big Picture podcast in which the whole debate pretty much revolved around point number two. The Leftist criticizing OBAA didn’t really flat out say he thought the movie’s reception was racist, but he came pretty damn close.

Anyway. One Battle After Another is a good movie. Go see it.

‘One Battle After Another’ Probably Will Be Banned Soon Enough

One Battle After Another is the best movie of the decade, so far. In fact, there were points while watching it that I found myself comparing it to The Godfather in terms of it potentially becoming a cultural touchstone for decades to come.

But there’s a big problem — it’s seems inevitable that it will get sucked into the culture wars. Now, obviously, in the short term such controversy may help its box office. In the long term, however, I worry about it becoming cultural contraband if Trump goes full tyrant as it seems he is headed at the moment.

So, I guess enjoy it while you can?

The interesting thing about the movie to me was how it managed to be progressive without being “woke.” It was just a really good movie.

Really Interested In Seeing PTA’s ‘One Battle After Another’

But for the fact that I’m flat broke at the moment, I would go see Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another” this weekend. It seems like it is kind of my creative sweetspot of just the type of movie I might like.

Yet, of course, I’m also known for walking out of movies on a pretty regular basis. So, who knows. I’m so finicky about movies. I go into them all excited and then too often just about at the inciting incident, when I get a sense of what the movie is going to be about, I bounce.

We’ll see, I guess. Maybe this go round things will be different. I’m hearing really great things about One Battle After Another and there’s a chance that word of mouth will be enough to make it a success.

Of course, given the themes that I’ve heard that the movie addresses, there’s always a chance that it will catch a stray from Trump and that, unto itself, will be the thing that juices its box office numbers.
