Lyrics To ‘Arni’s Resistance:’ ‘Nothing Is Real’

I have no idea what I’m doing. But it’s a challenge to at least try to fit lyrics to music. Techno is good it’s easier to find instrumentals of it on Soundcloud.

Nothing Is Real (But The Way You Make Me Feel)

nothing is real
nothing is real
nothing is real
nothing is real

but the way you make me feel
but the way you make me feel
but the way you make me feel

Bridge
your look is hard as ice
making me strive more
to warm you in the night
to end this blight of hate
because nothing is real

but the way you make me feel
but the way you make me feel
but the way you make me feel

Toplining Lyrics To Destructo’s ‘Techno:’ ‘Listening To Me’

Apparently, a lot of songs are actually “toplined,” which is when a lyricist is given music then told to write lyrics to it. I don’t know anything about music, but I can write and like to tell stories via music. So, I’m going to experiment with “toplining” a little bit.

Listen To Me

I can hear your voice in my head
wanting to get me into bed
your body languge has been read
nobody listens to techno
but you’re listening to me

listening to me
listening to me
listenting to me

perfect in your glow
nobody but me can hear you now
we’re as close as can be
soon we’ll be inside

listening to me
listening to me
listenting to me

bridge
sounds come and go
just like a bump of blow
I can hear you in my skin
that’s when we begin again
with the two of us in sin

‘Cunning’ — #Lyrics To Raunchy Adult Contemporary Song

Sometimes I stumble across a modern pop song that I didn’t know about that is actually REALLY GOOD! And that is the case with Ariana Grande’s “Motive.” One more tick towards rock and it’d actually be pop rock. Anyway, I know how Ari loves dirty fucking songs, so here you go. This song would be in the same vibe as “Motive.”

Cunning
lyrics by Shelt Garner

Come here and be cunning
use your lips between my hips
spell out my name without any shame
you can speak French if you like
maybe even a little Greek
but want I wanna know is
are you

(chorus)
a cunning linguist
can you speak in tongues
are you a cunning linguist
can you speak in tongues
if you can I want some

I can read very well
the way you speak in tongues
got me on the top rung
I’m waiting for it to happen
just for fun

if you’re good you can go lower
so we can’t get much higher
I can be such a flirt
when I’m ready to squirt

(bridge)
in and out ain’t a enough
it just can’t make me shout
you gotta touch me just right
pucker your lips on my lips
we’ll be fucking just right
with delight

(chorus)
a cunning linguist
can you speak in tongues
are you a cunning linguist
can you speak in tongues
if you can I want some

‘Overtime’ — #Lyrics To An Adult Contemporary Song

I have no idea what I’m doing. But I stumbled across the Ariana Grande song “Motive” and for an adult contemporary song it’s damn good. But anyway, this song is meant to be about how “best things in life are free.”

Overtime
lyrics by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

we ain’t go no money
baby we both know it’s true
but you’re rich in ways
that make the girls blush
so when you make it rain
in the bushes we take it slow
stroke, stroke, stroke

(chorus)
the jewlery may be fake
but the passion will be real
we’re working overtime, overtime, overtime
to heal the pain of keeping it real

I’m not prepared to be scared
we’re both broke it’s true
so our fun has to be free
you’re as strong as they come
which is what I do like clock work
one by one

when the dawn breaks
I’m all you can take
if I work back much more
you might break

(chorus)
the jewlery may be fake
but the passion will be real
we’re working overtime, overtime, overtime
to heal the pain of keeping it real

(bridge)
I ask you
when we win the lottery
will we still be in love
or will you leave me for a side chick
you just laugh and rub my head
tell me roll for another round

(chorus)
the jewlery may be fake
but the passion will be real
we’re working overtime, overtime, overtime
to heal the pain of keeping it real

(chorus)
the jewlery may be fake
but the passion will be real
we’re working overtime, overtime, overtime
to heal the pain of keeping it real

Lyric Writing Musings

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I find myself feeling pretty good about the novel I’m working on. It’s not perfect and I’m just (again) at just about the end of the first act, but things are stable enough with it that I’m allowing myself to blow off some steam by writing song lyrics that will never, ever be performed.

But I think what’s going on is I like the challenges associated with at least TRYING to sell a pop song. I’m going to have to learn guitar, maybe buy some mixing equipment. And I’m going to have to study what makes a great pop song.

So, I find myself listening to the likes of Ariana Grande and….oh boy.

She can’t possibly be the horney little minx she tries to come off as. I guess the only reason why that is even an issue is her image is of a pre-teen. For her to be so raunchy in her songs…I mean…come the fuck on.

Anyway, one thing is clear about pop songs is they have to be open enough to interpretation that people can imbue the lyrics with their own, personal meanings. That’s what makes writing a pop song that isn’t 70s KISS song so difficult.

You have to both convey a lot of information but also the information is so vague in real terms that no one really knows what you’re talking about. But I think as a little bit of a treat to myself I may write a few song lyrics tonight just to stimulate that part of my mind after a long time of not doing so.

I’m well aware the whole thing is stupid since, like, what’s the point? But it is enjoyable in its own way to attempt to sort of write proto song lyrics that I might one day use as the basis for REAL song lyrics.

‘This City Doesn’t Deserve Me’ — #Lyrics To A Pop-Rock Song

The title of this song comes from something Tina Fey recounted one of her daughters saying: “this city doesn’t deserve me.” I know nothing about music, but I do enjoy telling stories using the economy of verse. And, honestly, once I finish the novel I’m working on, I may very well buy a guitar and see if I can sell one pop song before I croak.

I see this song as have a tune similar to this song:

This City Doesn’t Deserve Me
lyrics by Shelt Garner

skyscrapers surround me
keep me teathered
bound me
as I walk around Chinatown
not my fate to know yours
but I’m ready, ready
to test the ground
to become outward bound

(chorus)
this city doesn’t deserve me
I state as I flee the hate
this city doesn’t deserve me
I state as I flee the hate
why does it have to be this way
at this late date

(bridge)
love the energy of this ground
but it’s tough to get around
when it doubt run for the hills
maybe find some thrills

(chorus)
this city doesn’t deserve me
I state as I flee the hate
this city doesn’t deserve me
I state as I flee the hate
why does it have to be this way
at this late date

‘Night Monsters’ — #Lyrics To A Pop-Rock Song About #Covid19 Symptoms

I know nothing about music. I’m just letting off steam. This would be a slow, dark, methodical pop rock song.

Night Monsters
lyrics by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

night monsters
night monsters
come out at night
just out of sight
night monsters
night monsters

night monsters
knock you out for delight
the aches are there
the fear rears its head
at night with all its might
what are you going to do
when they’re let out of the zoo

night monsters
night monsters
comout out at night
just out of sight
night monsters
night monsters

night monsters
stare at your body
make you can’t move or make a sound
you feel like a clown
won’t allow a twitch
without some sort of hitch

(bridge)
when dawn arrives
we let out a sigh
hoping they’re gone
knowing they’ll be back
leaving us out of whack

night monsters
night monsters
comout out at night
just out of sight
night monsters
night monsters

‘ATM’ — A Gift For Ariana Grande #Lyrics

Ariana Grande loves, loves, LOVES dirty songs. From “Side to Side” to her latest jam which is about 69ing, there’s no sexual position or activity she wants to avoid talking about in no-so-subtle ways. So, here’s the stepping off point for a new dirty song for her. I used Janelle Monae’s duet with Miguel “Primetime” to give me some sort of beat structure. Please ignore if you’re a producer and can think of something better. But I thought of this concept and couldn’t stop thinking about it. And, in all honesty, I only write lyrics like this to see if anyone with a cool domain name pops up in my Webstats.

ATM

being in line with you is sublime
waiting for you make change
gotta go to the ATM
see if you’ll smile
when I’m around the corner

ATM is what I’m talking about
when you need to make a dash
for some extra cash
just go to the
ATM ATM ATM

not everyone knows your PIN
but when I’m touching you
I’m always a star
your sun shines bright
even when it’s bleached white’

ATM is what I’m talking about
when you need to make a dash
for some extra cash
just go to the
ATM ATM ATM

(bridge)
the ATM may closed
but my fingers know the score
when I hit the spot
I lick until you’re a rock

ATM is what I’m talking about
when you need to make a dash
for some extra cash
just go to the

‘Vortex,’ Or, My Struggle To Write The Lyrics To A Pop Hit

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I have long thought that “Vortex” would be the great title for a pop rock song. And the last five years of Trump craziness has only reinforced that idea. But I don’t know how to play guitar and know nothing about music. But I can write — and find writing lyrics relaxing — so I keep coming back to this idea.

The concept for the song is it would sound a lot like Rihanna’s “Umbrella.” The lyrics would be about a really crazy situation (romantic?) that someone had to live through.

The interesting thing about trying to write this kind of song is you have to be really abstract and open ended. I have written all these really bad lyrics about very specific things. The genius of good song lyrics is they both make sense and can be interpreted a lot of different ways.

I really need to learn guitar.

I’m very interesting in seeing how far down the process of selling song lyrics I can get. But that’s for after finishing the two novel story I’m working on right now.

I Hate Being Old: I Could Write A Pop Hit, Given The Opportunity

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I used to write lyrics all the time because it was very, very relaxing. But I wrote them very quickly. And I don’t know anything about music. I might write some more soon because it’s so relaxing, but it’s also a huge waste of time when I could be working on my novel.

I don’t know guitar. And even if I became a middle-aged cliche and learned how to play guitar now, I would still have to overcome the ageism. The entire music business is designed from the ground up to prevent people like me to break into it.

But maybe once I finish the two books in this novel story I’m working on right now I’ll learn guitar. I like how writing lyrics force an economy of words on you that is very challenging.
