Someone Is Probably Going To Adapt ‘The Unincorporated Man’ Into A Movie

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

If the history of the Internet is any indication, then we’re probably going to see something akin to the Sandra Bullock movie “The Net,” but for the Petite Singularity pretty soon. One movie that deals with a lot of topics that would allow some cool visual effects would be an adaptation of the novel The Unincorporated Man.

The Fourth Turning may make the technology of The Unincorporated Man moot, at least for a while.

The novel is really interesting for a number of reasons, but it really talks about the potential downsides of VR. In the novel, set in the far future, there was something called The VR Plague that wiped out a lot of people who stopped eating because they were addicted to VR.

There are some political elements to the novel that might cause it to be something of a turn off to some, but overall the novel is ripe to be turn into a movie. If nothing else, I do think that we’re going to see an explosion of movies that deal with the Petite Singularity technologies of VR, AR and AI.

It would all be a part of the broader vibe shift that we’re just about to undergo –that is, of course, unless the fucking Fourth Turning doesn’t cause a collapse in human civilization.

News In Our ‘Her’ Future

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I don’t think we’re prepared for how news gathering and consumption will be transformed when AI totally commoditized and personalized. When we reach the future of the movie “Her” it seems as though the Web as we know it will implode into a Singularity.

Our personal digital assistances will know us so well that they will answer questions before we ask them. And rather than having to go to The New York Times, the Web will just be a bunch of different PDAs talking to each other all the time.

I just don’t even know if the print Web will exist by 2030.

It definitely will be interesting to see how everything plays out. But the key thing we have to appreciate is a lot of the problems that the news industry has at the moment might be seen as rather quaint.

Everything will be disrupted to the point that the very questions we ask and the very problems we have to deal with will be very, very different.

What Am I Noticing?

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

The only reason why I am willing to give the idea that Tik-Tok (and Big Tech in general) can read our minds is my Tik-Tok feed SEEMS to go haywire when someone else thinks hard near my phone.

But what might it be that I’m noticing if it’s not Digital Telepathy?

The most obvious answer is some sort of AI making logical assumptions because of location based tracking. But the most recent instance of this happening is difficult to square with that idea because the person who visited me has no social media of note.

And, yet, the idea that something has profound as Digital Telepathy could secretly exist is such a Black Mirror-type concept that I struggle to believe that I’m seeing what I think I’m seeing.

I suppose the key thing is — isn’t anyone else noticing this strange things I’m noticing with the videos being pushed by Tik-Tok? To date, I’ve seen nothing that would indicate that is the case.

So, I guess I’m wrong. Something is happening that I just don’t understand.

Hollywood Is A Dead Industry Walking

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I love Hollywood. But I’m also a realist. And with the advent of the Apple Vision Pro and all these AI image generators at the same time….oh boy. It is clear to me that barring some sort of “Fourth Turning” event starting in late 2024, early 2025….”human” Hollywood is about to have its goose cooked.

The very idea of humans being involved in any sort of entertainment creation may be pretty quaint. And I say this as someone working as hard as possible to finish a novel. As long as the AI Generated Media is “good enough,” audiences will gravitate to it.

We are probably 18 months away from a Toy Story-level AI-generated movie being produced and released. And once that happens, it could spook everyone so badly that Hollywood might demand some sort of carve outs legislation that requires humans be involved in the generation of art, no matter what.

Or not. I could happen so fast that there’s just not time for the slow moving U.S. Government to get around to doing such a thing. But I do think we have to realize that Hollywood is about to be disrupted in a rather dramatic fashion a lot sooner than any of us may have otherwise realized.

Facebook Is In Trouble

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

Facebook is very much for The Olds now. So much so that I could see the rise of AI on the Apple Vision Pro being The End for Facebook as we know it. It may be revived as an app on the AVP because it’s something of a utility, but there could be a little bit of a bumpy period between now and then.

We’re about to lurch into the future in a big, big way and there will be winners and losers. And there is at least a possibility that Facebook could turn into something akin to Blockbuster and it just not survive the transition into this new era.

Everything is about to change very quickly. All that has to happen is, say, AVP 4.0 come out with a $1,200 price point and a lot lighter headset and wham! We wake up and everyone is wearing one of the damn things. There will be a huge vibe shift to the point that people will think, “Gee, I remember before everyone walked around with what looks like a Star Trek Visor.”

It will be interesting to see how things play out going forward.

The Release Of The Apple Vision Pro as The Long-Awaited ‘Vibe Shift’

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

We may finally lurch into a new era if people feel comfortable wearing the Apple Vision Pro in public. The moment that happens, then the usual dynamics of capitalism will kick in and, before you know it, the headsets will start to be leaner and sleeker to the point that there will be a Before and an After.

But that’s all very speculative at the moment.

A lot could go wrong. It could be that a Second American Civil War / WW3 might break out. It could be that the Apple Vision Pro is all hype and, in the end, no one will want one and, as such, we will punt the dream of a vibe shift down the road another few years.

But the combination of VR / AR, robotics and AI all coming to a head at the same time is definitely the makings of a vibe shift in the near, near future. No one, especially me, can predict the future, so, lulz.

Who knows.

Better Living Through Technology

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

It definitely seems as though we’re in for a significant “vibe shift” caused by technology in the very, very near future. This fact has gotten me thinking about how there might be some unintended political consequences to something akin to a Petite Singularity.

I came to this realization walking around Wal-Mart today. Imagine if instead of struggling to find a human to tell me what I needed to know, the place was crawling with one of those androids that Elon Musk is working on. Put Grok or ChatGTP in them and download the entire floorplans and the stock of the store and they could replace the humans that work at the store.

This might happen at an affordable level by 2030 — if we don’t blow the world up first.

But imagine if there was a sudden tipping point on the android / AI front and a lot of DDD jobs that undocumented people usually fill were done by androids. That might turn off the tap of people coming across the border simply because androids would be doing the jobs they would otherwise be paid to do.

Everything is so dumb

Also, isn’t it at least POSSIBLE that that, unto itself, might unfuck up our politics when it comes to MAGA and abortion? And if Incels can fuck a sex bot instead being idiots thinking women have a responsibility to fuck t hem, then…maybe a lot of the culture war fueled by feminism and a low birth rate….might just vanish?

So, there might be some upside to the rise of coming AI android overlords. Of course, this solution will, in turn cause the rise of an AI / android rights movement that I’m sure MAGA will love to oppose.

And remember, we still have the possibility of absolute chaos at home and abroad starting from right about now until sometime in 2025. It could be that just like how WW2 paused the development of TV that the coming Second American Civil War / WW3 will do the same thing with the Petite Singularity.

It could be that after about 1 billion people die across the globe — specifically and directly because of the actions of MAGA and Trump — and all that is sorted out that it won’t be until about 2030 that all the cool technological goodies that we’re being promised today will actually be rolled out.

Screw NeuralLink, Give Me A Mindcap

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I joking — not joking — still think that it’s at least POSSIBLE that some sort of digital teleplay technology is floating out there in the depths of Big Tech. Which, of course, opens up the possibility of some sort of technology that would do the same shit that Elon Musk wants his NeuralLink to do without drilling into anyone’s brain.

In Arthur C. Clarke’s novel “3001” everyone wears a mindreading device called a Mindcap. I would much, much rather wear a Mindcap than drill a hole in my head for something like a NeuralLink.

And, yet, it seems as though if any form of digital telepathy actually exists, it’s super top secret and never something that would be commercialized for the average person.

Which I think is a shame.

The Petite Singularity Is Near

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I’m beginning to believe that a lot of our social problems are being caused by the looming arrival not of a Hard Singularity where we’re uploading or minds into a big database, but a much softer Petite Singularity.

If you combine social media, AI, VR / AR, streaming, biotech and robotics, you definitely have the makings of a transformation in human civilization to the point that the average person can’t catch up. What is the whole “trans” movement, but just the fact that changing genders has becoming affordable to the masses on a medical basis?

It definitely seems as though it won’t be too long before the “transhuman” movement goes mainstream, too. And AI / robot rights. Which, of course, makes one wonder if the next phase of MAGA will be some sort of neo-Luddism.

That is a very big question at the moment going forward.

Anyway. All of this could be moot if The Fourth Turning happens and Western Civilization collapses.

Good times!

The Looming End of Traditional Media Websites

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

It may take a little while — maybe a few years — but it definitely seems as though the entirety of the Web will collapse into a singularity when AI finally takes over everything.

Rather than using a search engine to passively brows the Web — and read news — you will have a very active, personal “relationship” with you Her-like digital personal assistant.

Some basic notions of how we interact with the Web and the news will change in a fundimental manner. To me, the undetermined issue is how anyone will make money through journalism. I suppose there might be keywords that, when invoked during a conversation with your PDA might spawn some sort of advertorial?

Once that is figured out, then there will be fork in the road. Either AI will be used to replace all human journalists, or there might be some sort of half-measure that allows some journalists to survive.

I have my doubts.

Only time will tell.
