I’m Grateful For What I Have

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

Driving around tonight, I was stunned by how many homeless people there were, even in my rural area. Since I’m always coming up with story ideas, I came up with one whereby in the tradition of the movie “Something Wild” some guy randomly picks a homeless woman to help her get out of the cold and she totally takes over his life.

Anyway.

I’m very, very grateful to have heat in this extreme cold. I mean, it’s REALLY FUCKING COLD outside. How anyone could survive out there, I don’t know. And, yet, what the fuck am I going to do about it?

I can’t just let random homeless people squat in my house. So, here I am, feeling bad in my warm abode. But, I have to say again, I’m very grateful that I have a home to live in.

The thing I’m really worried about is how severe income inequality can cause social instability. Yikes. I also kind of half-worry that I might be out there in the cold myself next year this time because I’ll be a political domestic refugee after a revolution / civil war takes place.

We Are All Catturd

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I can only get so worked up about whatever bullshit Catturd blathers on about because I know a few subtle changes to my personal history and I probably would be him!

Besides his fascist, MAGA polemical elements, one a personal basis he seems like just a dude who has figured out how to serve an audience. And, really, that’s what all writers want to do.

But I will note that one thing I find really annoying about Catturd is his, “Oh, little old me?” bullshit. He is so sincere in his support of what is a very fucked up, racist, misogynistic fascist political movement that is very grating on my nerves.

I have a least one person in my own life like him and that person really pissed me off, too. Anyway, in the end, Catturd will probably be seen as a quirk of our antebellum world.

We Need That ‘Black Swan’ Event Really Bad, Folks

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

Oh boy.

I can remember talking to a minor member of The Powers That Be in late 2019 and we both agreed that Trump was going to win re-election without much trouble. The COVID happened.

So, I dunno.

It will be interesting to see if some sort of “Black Swan” event happens that throws what seems inevitable, up into the air and nobody knows what is going to happen.

I think the key thing to remember is that 2024 – 2025 may be one of the most momentous, fucked up periods of time in American — if not global — history.

Is Unfrozen Caveman Governor Ron DeSantis Going To Drop Out?

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

As of right now, it seems as though Ron “I’m just waiting for bad to happen to Trump” DeSantis is in it to win it. Not that he will. It’s all very curious. He’s just not very good at retail politics.

But it will be interesting to see what happens next. I think, for the moment, he’s going to linger until he is defeated in South Carolina, then he will pull the plug. So, I suppose we have a few more weeks or months of him pretending he has a chance at winning.

Should We Expect A Tay-Tay Bay-Bay Boom?

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

The thing about Tay-Tay’s most recent relationship is how….fucking normal it is. Her relationship to a big lug football player is like the long-dead heteronormative monoculture crawling out of its grave in one last gasp. She’s not dating a woman. She’s not dating a trans man. Or any other variations one might think up.

He’s just a big lug with a good personality who treats her well.

That’s it. Nothing that MAGA should object to.

And YET, those fucking MAGA idiots are so consumed with their thirst for fascist power that they hate on Tay-Tay…because she wants people to vote? THAT is enough get MAGA riled up?

Those guys are so fucking pathetic.

But all this does make you wonder if maybe there might be a little bit of a Tay-Tay Bay-Bay Boom if she settles down and drops a few kids. Ms. Swift is a grow-ass woman, she can do what she likes, but, relative to her fan base, she’s a little old to still to be single sans a family.

Would any of that fan base decide to have a baby if Tay-Tay had one? I dunno. It’s difficult to game out. It could go either way. But Oprah is the closest we have to judge Tay-Tay against and she never had kids at the top of her popularity.

And, yet, whatever. I don’t care. Just come out with a rock album, Tay-Tay.

Could The Start Of WW3 In 2024 Be The ‘Black Swan’ Event That Prevents A Trump Win?

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

At the moment, malignant ding-dong Trump has an air of invincibility and inevitability about around him. He’s going to win and we either turn into a MAGA-themed autocracy, or we have a revolution then civil war.

But I can’t predict the future and there is always a chance that some sort of “Black Swan” event could happen that would give us an off ramp just like the pandemic did in 2020. Of all the possible Black Swan events that might happen, something that might be marketed as WW3 is definitely among them at the moment.

If, say, Iran and Pakistan nuked each other. Or if the DPRK went at it with the ROK that would be enough for the American press to say, “Buckle up, America, WW3 has started.”

That, in turn, would cause a rally-round-the flag movement (at least at first) and that would help Biden. A lot would depend on WHEN WW3 happened. The later it happened, the more it would help Biden and potentially allow us to avoid a dystopian hellscape.

My Hot Take On Trump’s Recent Ranting About ‘Absolute Presidential Immunity’

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I don’t pretend to understand ding-dong Trump’s mind, but it definitely would appear there is a specific reason why he rants shit like this:

What he’s doing is trying to stake out the most absolute fucking extreme negotiating position on the slim chance that he might get more than he might get otherwise.

That’s it. That’s all I got.

Is MAGA’s Personal Fidelity To Trump Transferable?

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

Trump is an old, fat fuck. I don’t wish him any personal ill will, as much as I absolutely hate MAGA as a movement. But we do have to contemplate what happens next once he inevitably shuffles off this mortal coil.

Of course, the first thing that will happen — no matter what — will be his followers will burn cities because they think he’s a god and it’s obvious that the Deep State somehow prevented him from flying directly to leave on his winged unicorn.

Trump and Elise Stefanik

Apparently, Trump is really interested in naming toady Rep. Elise Stefanik as his veep. She just doesn’t seem to have the iron will that would allow her to be an autocrat if Trump was no more.

But what do I know. Trump still has time to pick someone who would be the autocrat he wants to be.

Did We Learn Nothing From Hitler & The German Industrialists?

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I don’t know what to tell you. It seems as though history is repeating itself when it comes to Trump and major American oligarchs.

I just don’t know. It definitely seems as though American industrialists are cool with Trump becoming a MAGA dictator, given the opportunity. I don’t think Trump will be an expansionist like Hitler, but rather someone who causes the country to implode, like Pol Pot.

But that doesn’t mean Trump won’t be just as destructive — if not more destructive — than Hitler was, just for different reasons. I still believe that Trump could directly and personally be responsible for the death of 1 billion people around the globe before it’s all over with.

Yet, lulz, it definitely seems as though we’re just going to have to go through some things before the mistake we’ve all collectively made.

The Curious Case Of Modern Gender Politics

by Shelt Garner
@sheltgarner

I, on occasion, have hours-long conversations with my far more conservative relatives and one thing that really spooks them is how freaky gender politics have become. They’re Traditionalists and they are at a loss as to how fluid and weird gender has become for a lot of people.

Ethel Cain

I struggle with what to tell them.

I generally support trans rights, and, yet, it can be really difficult to know what the orthodoxy on that particular subject is at any particular moment. As such, people keep coming at me from the cultural Left and it really fucking annoys me. I’m on your side!

I have to say, though, that I really am impressed with Ethel Cain. She’s a trans woman and her music is really, really good. Probably some of the best new music I’ve heard in years. But I have to admit, it takes a moment for me to realize that the heartfelt songs from a female POV are being sung by someone who was is biologically male.

It’s all very curious. What’s worrisome is the always-changing orthodoxy about trans rights so upsets Traditionalists that they are VERY receptive to fascism. I worry a lot about this because trans people are the very people who are most at risk should we become a MAGA autocracy.

I shutter to think about that particular future.
